First of all i want to say that ff8 is a game that marked me forever like most of you I guess ^^, I think it's a vast game that summons many thories, like did squall die or not, more vast than that, I personally think that rinoa is ultimecia in the future, due to the bond between them, also rinoa was pictured as having wings, ultimecia too, u see there are many stuff more than the game that are still a mystery for all of us.

Perhaps you already know this but i read, (i dont really remember where) that in fact ultimecia is rinoa in the future, but she turned evil when squall died, according to the ff world, sorceresses need a knight to guard their souls and prevent them from changing to evil(thats why edea had one, thou she was possesed she was good in the inside, and adel not having one, was corrupted) and if they dont pass their magic to someone else they could live for centuries, but humans dont, so when squall died, rinoa lost her knight and started to change, in time she forgot everything she knew, she forgot squall, her name, her family and friends, only remained the sensation that once she was happy and loved but really long time ago, so she wanted to come back to that past, thats how all the time compression idea started and she bacame bad.
thats why ultimecia mentions in the end of the game that griever, that exists only in squalls mind, is the most powerfull GF, and summons it (how did she knew about griever? because she, once rinoa, recalled a memory of squall giving her the ring and talking about it) She didnt recognize squall cuz she had forgotten him and locked the memory, but she knew about the GF, and squall helped bringing the subject back.

i believe heavily that squall does not die since at the end of the game you see him and rinoa :)...... and i too think this game is phenominal...... it is right there with ff6 (or ff3 whichever you refer to it as)

Squall didn´t die! He kisses Rinoa in the very last picture of the game... and that theory about Rinoa is Ultimecia... i think it´s possible...did you noticed that in the game intro, Rinoa has black feathers wen she hughs Squall... just like Ultimecia...

Exactly besides when ultimecia is defeated she returns to the time and place where Squall was, only to pass the powers to the young edea? i dont think so, why didnt she go any other place with someone else, uh...

OMG raphael didn't see your post untill now lol, aanyway it perfectly makes sense, though we have to admit that FFVIII as a game alone has many plot holes (like the GF erases memory thing to explain how they forgot so much details, I didn't see that coming lol) and lacks some coherence in parts of it and from the game alone you can't expect to understand everything. But it's still the best FF ever, and don't worry rinoa if you're ultemicia or not we don't care we love you a lot <3 lol
